Duchess Kate likes to keep her children close to her heart.
During a recent Zoom event, the Duchess of Cambridge wore a sentimental gold necklace when she got candid about homeschooling and parenting during the COVID-19 pandemic, and talked about her husband being her biggest supporter throughout the United Kingdom’s multiple lockdowns.
Speaking to parents whose children attend Roe Green Junior School in Brent, England, along with the school’s headteacher, Prince William’s wife said, “I know how challenging it is juggling work, home life, school life and everything else that you as parents are doing, so really well done.”
Kate visited the same school three years ago to launch her Mentally Healthy Schools initiative.
The virtual call was taken at the Queen’s Sandringham House – where Kate and Prince William are hosting a lot of their online work meetings. For the occasion, Kate wore a green Massimo Dutti jacket that she paired with a ribbed green top underneath. She accessorized the look with a personalized gold necklace that reportedly features the initials of her three children, and a pair of gold hoop earrings, according to Hello! magazine. She has been seen many times in the past wearing the same initial pendant necklace, proving that it’s a favorite of hers.
The delicate personalized necklace features three dangling charms engraved with the letters “C”, “G,” and “L.” The letters refer to the names of her three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. The gold necklace is “Made using 100% recycled 9 carat gold,” according to the jewelry company’s website.
Headteacher Melissa Loosemore asked the group of parents a series of quick fire questions such as “describe parenting in a pandemic in one word.” The royal mother-of-three held up a paper that showed the word “exhausting” while other parents showed similar feelings, such as “hectic,” “patience” and “challenging.”
When asked to write down who has been her biggest supporter throughout the pandemic, Duchess Kate wrote her husband Prince William’s name. She also described parenting during the pandemic as “exhausting,” and explained, “I think as parents you have the day-to-day elements of being a parent but I suppose during lockdown we have had to take on additional roles that I suppose others in our communities of in our lives would have perhaps supported us with.”
“I’ve become a hairdresser this lockdown, much to my children’s horror,” she laughingly added during the conversation.

During the call she also revealed which school subject she struggles with the most as she helps Prince George, 7, and Princess Charlotte, 5, with their assignments from home. When asked to rate her math skills on a scale of 1 to 10, Kate jotted down “-5.”
“I’m obviously right at the bottom!” she said with a smile.
She also told the other parents on the call, “I know how challenging it is juggling work, home life, school life and everything else that you as parents are doing, so really well done.”
“Fingers crossed, let’s hope for the positivity as you’ve all been saying,” she continued. Make sure everyone looks after themselves — it’s very hard to prioritize but it’s definitely needed now more than ever. It’s important for our children that we look after ourselves too.”
